Circa 2013-2015. The heliport was listed as 'Closed Indefinitely' in FAA records from that period. The closure preceded the hospital's major campus-wide construction project.
The heliport was closed as part of a strategic, long-term hospital expansion and modernization plan. The 'Reimagine Project' by CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center involved the construction of a new, multi-story patient tower and other facility upgrades. The location and operation of the old helipad (FAA ID: 6CL4) conflicted with the construction, making continued operations unsafe and impractical. Its closure was a planned step towards its replacement, not the result of an accident, military conversion, or specific economic failure.
The site of the original heliport, located on the roof of the original main hospital building, has been permanently decommissioned. The helipad markings, lighting, and associated equipment have been removed. The area is now simply a featureless rooftop, integrated into the expanded and modernized hospital campus.
As the primary heliport for a major Los Angeles hospital, it was a critical component of the regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) network. Its main operation was handling medical evacuation (medevac) flights, allowing for the rapid transport of critically injured or ill patients from accident scenes or other medical facilities, which was vital for bypassing dense city traffic. The heliport served the populous communities of Hollywood, Los Feliz, and surrounding areas, and was frequently used by air ambulance operators and emergency services like the LAFD.
There are zero prospects for reopening the original heliport (ICAO: US-11167 / FAA: 6CL4). Its function has been superseded. As part of the hospital's completed expansion project, a new, state-of-the-art heliport was constructed on the roof of the new Acute Care Patient Tower. This new, fully operational facility is registered as CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center Heliport (FAA Identifier: 19CA) and now serves all of the hospital's air ambulance needs.
