The heliport's closure was a direct result of the closure and relocation of the associated hospital. The aging Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital was replaced by the new, modern Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, which was built at a different location (603 N. Progress Ave.). The new hospital opened with its own modern heliport (Siloam Springs Regional Hospital Heliport, FAA LID: 3AR1), making the old one obsolete.
The site of the former heliport and the entire old hospital property were purchased by the Siloam Springs School District. The hospital building at 301 S. Mt. Olive St. has been renovated and repurposed into the Siloam Springs School District Administration Building. The former helipad area, which was located on the ground level adjacent to the building, has been absorbed into the parking lot and grounds of the new administrative complex. All markings and infrastructure related to the heliport have been removed.
The Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital Heliport was a private-use facility that served as a critical asset for the region's emergency medical infrastructure. Its primary and sole operation was to support Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). The heliport was used by medical helicopters to transport critically injured or ill patients from accident scenes or smaller clinics to the hospital's emergency room. It also facilitated the rapid transfer of patients requiring specialized care to larger trauma centers in Fayetteville, Springdale, or Tulsa. For decades, it was a vital link in the chain of survival for the community of Siloam Springs and the surrounding rural areas.
There are zero prospects for reopening this heliport. Its function has been permanently replaced by the new heliport at the active Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Since the original site is no longer a medical facility and has been fully repurposed for educational administration, there is no need or plan for its reactivation.
