The airport was closed sometime between 1993 and 1999. It was last depicted on the Memphis Sectional Chart in August 1993 but was no longer listed in airport directories or shown on aeronautical charts by 1999. Aerial imagery from 2004 shows a road being constructed across the former runway, confirming its permanent closure by that time.
The primary reason for closure was economic pressure and urban encroachment. As the city of Cabot expanded, the land became significantly more valuable for residential real estate development than for a small, private general aviation airfield. The owner, Ralph Fulmer, eventually sold the property for redevelopment.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision. The airport's legacy is preserved in the street names of the neighborhood built upon it, which include 'Fulmer Drive', 'Runway Drive', and 'Tailwind Drive'. The alignment of the former north-south runway is now occupied by houses and Fulmer Drive.
Ralph Fulmer Field, also known as Cabot Flying Club Field, was a small, privately owned airport that served the general aviation community in and around Cabot, Arkansas. Established sometime between 1945 and 1953, it was a classic example of a local, post-war airfield. It was operated by its namesake, Ralph Fulmer, and was home to the Cabot Flying Club. The airport featured a single turf runway, designated 17/35, which was initially 2,000 feet long and later extended to approximately 2,600 feet. It handled light single-engine aircraft for recreational flying, flight training, and private transport.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening Ralph Fulmer Field. The land has been permanently and densely repurposed for residential use, and all aviation infrastructure has been removed.
