Approximately between 2010 and 2014. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a defined grass runway visible in 2010, but by 2014, the land had been plowed and integrated into the surrounding agricultural fields.
The airport was a small, privately-owned airstrip. Its closure was likely a private decision by the owner, leading to the land being repurposed for agricultural use. This is a common reason for the closure of small, private airfields and is supported by the site's conversion to a cultivated field.
The site is no longer recognizable as an airport. The land where the runway was located has been fully converted into a cultivated farm field. There are no remaining signs of a runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.
Hess Strip was a private general aviation airport. It featured a single turf runway, estimated to be 2000 feet long and 100 feet wide. Its operations were limited to small, single-engine aircraft for personal or recreational use by its owner, J.R. Hess. Given its location in the Arkansas Delta, a major agricultural region, it may have also occasionally been used for agricultural aviation (crop dusting). The airport held no known commercial or military significance and served solely the needs of its private owner.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Hess Strip. The land has been completely repurposed, and the general aviation needs of the Wynne community are served by the nearby Wynne Municipal Airport (KM94).
