Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 27, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately between mid-2021 and late-2022. The airport was still depicted on the Dallas-Fort Worth VFR Sectional Chart in May 2021 but was removed by the September 2022 edition. The closure directly correlates with the passing of the owner, William 'Dub' D. Bennett, in March 2021.

Reason for Closure

The airport was a private-use airstrip located on the owner's residential property. The closure was a direct result of the death of the owner and operator. This is a common reason for the closure of small, private airfields and was not related to economic issues, military conversion, or a specific accident.

Current Status

The site is currently a private residential estate. Satellite imagery confirms that the house and a large hangar-style building remain on the property. The former turf runway is still clearly visible as a long, mowed grassy area but is no longer maintained or marked as an active runway. The land has not been redeveloped for other purposes.

Historical Significance

Bennetts Airport was a private turf airstrip serving the personal and recreational needs of its owner, an avid pilot and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). It was not a public or commercial airport. Operations were limited to general aviation, consisting of small, single-engine propeller aircraft, including likely experimental/homebuilt models. The airfield featured a single unpaved turf runway, approximately 2,200 feet long, designated as Runway 1/19. Its significance was personal to the owner and the local private aviation community he was a part of.

Reopening Prospects

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Bennetts Airport. Since it was a private airfield intrinsically linked to its late owner, its reactivation would be solely at the discretion of the property's current or future owners. It is highly unlikely to be reopened as an airport.
