Approximately 2017-2018. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a clear, active runway with a small hangar or shelter at the west end through 2016. By 2018, the hangar structure was removed, and while the turf strip remained mowed, signs of active aviation use ceased. The closure was gradual and not tied to a specific documented event.
The ultralightport was a private facility on residential land. The closure was most likely due to personal reasons of the owner, such as retirement from flying, sale of the property, or a change in land use priorities. There is no public record of the closure being forced by regulatory action, a specific accident, or economic failure, which is typical for the closure of a private, non-commercial airfield.
The site is currently part of a private residential property. The former turf runway is still visible as a long, well-maintained strip of mowed grass, but it is no longer used for aviation. All dedicated aviation infrastructure, specifically the hangar/shelter that was located at the west end of the strip, has been removed. The land is now used as an extended lawn for the residence.
Meadow Strip Ultralightport was a private, unpaved turf runway approximately 1,200 feet long. Its significance was not in large-scale commercial or military operations, but as a representative example of a grassroots, recreational aviation facility. It exclusively handled ultralight aircraft operations under Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 103. These types of private strips are vital for the sport aviation community, allowing individuals to fly from their own property without the costs and regulations associated with public airports. It served as a personal base for at least one ultralight aircraft.
There are no known public plans or prospects for reopening Meadow Strip Ultralightport. As the land is privately owned, any future aviation activity would be solely at the discretion of the current landowner. Given that the hangar has been removed and the strip has been inactive for several years, a return to aviation use is considered highly unlikely.
