Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 27, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately between 1993 and 1998. The airport was still depicted on the 1993 New York Sectional Aeronautical Chart but was no longer shown on the 1998 edition. Aerial imagery confirms a private residence was constructed over the northern portion of the runway sometime after 1995.

Reason for Closure

Residential development. The closure was a direct result of the land being repurposed for private housing. A large single-family home was built on the former runway's footprint, a common fate for small, privately-owned airfields in areas with increasing land values.

Current Status

The site is now a private residential property. A large house, driveway, and landscaped yard occupy the northern half of the former airfield. The southern portion of the former runway is a long, open grass lawn that is part of the residential lot. While faint traces of the runway's outline can be seen in satellite imagery, all aviation infrastructure has been removed.

Historical Significance

Stallone Airport, also known as Stallone Field, was a small, private-use general aviation airfield. It featured a single north-south turf runway, approximately 2,600 feet long. The airport was owned and operated by F. Stallone and primarily served recreational pilots. It was a characteristic example of the numerous private grass strips that were common in rural and suburban America throughout the mid-to-late 20th century, supporting personal and recreational flight activities. It held no significant commercial or military role.

Reopening Prospects

None. The land has been permanently converted to residential use with a home built directly on the former operational area. There are no plans or possibilities for the site to ever be used as an airport again.
