Approximately between 1987 and 1993. The airport was last depicted on the 1987 Billings Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 1993 World Aeronautical Chart. Aerial photos from the mid-1990s show the beginning of residential construction on the property.
The closure was a direct result of urban encroachment and real estate development. As the city of Bozeman experienced significant growth, the land occupied by the airport became highly valuable for residential and commercial use, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The site of the former Monger Airport has been completely redeveloped. It is now a dense suburban area in the northwestern part of Bozeman. The land is covered by residential subdivisions, including Baxter Meadows and The Knolls at Hillcrest, as well as apartment complexes, commercial businesses, parks, and schools. Streets such as Durston Road and Babcock Street now run through the area where the runway once existed. There are no visible remnants of the airport today.
Monger Airport was a private general aviation airfield that served the Bozeman community for several decades. First appearing on aeronautical charts in 1965, it featured a single unpaved turf runway, approximately 3,000 feet long, designated as Runway 16/34. The airport catered to local private pilots for recreational flying and likely supported agricultural aviation operations like crop dusting. It represented a common type of small, privately-owned airfield that was essential for local aviation before being overtaken by urban expansion. The identifier US-11030 is a DAFIF (Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File) number, not a standard ICAO code, often assigned to smaller or closed fields in databases.
There are zero prospects for reopening Monger Airport. The land has been fully and permanently converted to high-density residential and commercial use, making any return to aviation operations at this location impossible.
