The airport was closed sometime between 1998 and 2004. It was depicted on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart but was no longer listed on the 2004 Detroit Sectional Chart.
The specific reason is not officially documented, but its closure is typical for small, privately-owned airfields. The most probable cause was the owner, William Trollman, ceasing operations due to personal reasons such as retirement or health. The land was subsequently maintained for purely residential use. There is no evidence suggesting closure due to a major accident, military conversion, or specific economic failure.
The site is now a large, private residential property. Satellite imagery shows that the former north/south grass runway is still faintly visible as a long, mowed lane through the property, but it is no longer maintained or used as an active airfield. A large house and several outbuildings, one of which may have served as a hangar, are located on the land.
Trollman's Field was a private general aviation airstrip. According to a 1982 directory, it featured a single 2,600-foot unpaved turf runway (designated 18/36). Its operations were limited to personal and recreational flying, primarily for the owner and possibly invited guests. It did not handle commercial, cargo, or military traffic. Its historical significance is local, serving as a personal airfield for a private pilot in the Fenton area.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Trollman's Field. As the property is privately owned and has been fully converted to residential use, the likelihood of it ever returning to service as an airport is virtually zero.
