Approximately 2013-2014. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the heliport was still operational in early 2013 but was demolished and under redevelopment by early 2015. The new facility on the site was officially opened in March 2015.
Economic and strategic business decisions. The heliport was owned by Bristow Group (which had absorbed Air Logistics). The company sold the prime riverfront property to Edison Chouest Offshore for redevelopment. The closure was part of a broader trend of helicopter operators consolidating operations into larger, more modern 'super-bases' and divesting from valuable real estate that could be used for other industrial purposes.
The heliport has been completely demolished. The site was redeveloped and is now the location of C-Innovation, LLC's integrated services facility. C-Innovation, a subsidiary of Edison Chouest Offshore, uses the site as a base for its subsea operations, including ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) services, vessel support, and other advanced marine technology solutions. The current facility consists of large office and warehouse buildings, and outdoor storage, with no remaining aviation infrastructure.
The Air Logistics (Belle Chasse) Heliport was a major private heliport and a critical logistical hub for the U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore oil and gas industry for several decades. Operated initially by Air Logistics and later by its successor, Bristow Group, the facility's primary mission was to transport personnel and time-sensitive cargo to and from offshore oil platforms, drilling rigs, and support vessels. Its strategic location on the Mississippi River just south of New Orleans made it an ideal base for serving the high-traffic offshore fields.
None. The site has been fully redeveloped for a different, non-aviation industrial purpose. Re-establishing a heliport would require the acquisition and demolition of the existing C-Innovation facility, making the prospect of it reopening as an aviation hub virtually zero.
