The airport was closed sometime between 1994 and 2004. It was last depicted on the 1994 Los Angeles Sectional Aeronautical Chart and was no longer present on the 2004 edition of the same chart.
The specific reason for closure is not officially documented, which is common for small, private airfields. As a private agricultural strip owned by 'Blair Brothers', the closure was most likely due to economic factors, the sale or inheritance of the property, or a decision by the owners to cease aviation operations and fully convert the land back to more profitable agricultural use.
The site of the former Blair Strip has been fully converted back to agricultural land. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates (36.27619, -119.641789) shows the faint, ghostly outline of the former north-south runway, but the area is now an active, cultivated farm field, likely an orchard or row crops. There are no remaining hangars, buildings, or any other aviation infrastructure visible on the site.
Blair Strip was a private airfield used primarily for agricultural aviation (ag-flying) and general aviation. Its earliest known depiction is on the 1969 USGS topographical map. The 1982 AOPA Airport Directory described it as a private field with a 2,200-foot turf runway aligned 18/36. Its significance was local, supporting the surrounding farming operations in Kings County. Operations would have included crop dusting, seeding, and private transportation for the landowners, which was a common practice for large farms in California's Central Valley.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Blair Strip. The land has been fully reclaimed for high-value agriculture for over two decades, and all infrastructure has been removed. The cost and effort to re-establish an airfield on productive farmland would be prohibitive and without apparent demand. The airport is considered permanently closed.
