The airport was closed in the mid-1990s, estimated to be around 1996. While an exact date is not officially recorded, aeronautical charts from 1993 still depicted the airport, but aerial imagery from the early 2000s shows significant residential construction on the southern end of the runway, confirming it had ceased operations by then.
The closure was due to economic factors, specifically suburban real estate development. The land, located in a growing suburban area, became more valuable for residential housing and recreational use (expansion of the adjacent golf course) than for operating a small, private airfield. This type of closure due to urban encroachment is common for small general aviation airports.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped. The northern half of the former runway is now the driving range for the Arrowhead Springs Golf Course. The southern half has been developed into a residential cul-de-sac named 'Arrowhead Springs Court', with several single-family homes built directly on the former runway's footprint. No traces of the active runway remain, although some of the original airport buildings or hangars may have been repurposed as private garages or storage sheds.
Arrowhead Springs Airport (formerly FAA LID: 3WI3) was a small, privately owned general aviation airport. It featured a single north/south oriented turf runway, approximately 2,600 feet in length. The airport primarily served the local recreational flying community. It was closely associated with the Arrowhead Springs Golf Course, likely serving as a convenient fly-in destination for pilots who were also golfers. Its operations were limited to small, single-engine aircraft and it held no major commercial or military significance, but was a feature of the local aviation landscape for about two decades.
There are zero prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and irreversibly repurposed for residential and recreational use. The presence of homes and a golf driving range directly on the former runway makes any future aviation activity at this specific location impossible.
