The airport was closed sometime between 1994 and 1999. It was last depicted on the 1994 Seattle Sectional Chart and was absent from the 1999 edition, indicating it ceased operations within that five-year window.
The specific reason is not publicly documented. However, as a small, privately owned airstrip (listed as owned by a W. Harris in the 1980s), the closure was almost certainly due to personal reasons of the owner. Common factors for such closures include the owner's retirement from flying, sale of the property, prohibitive costs of maintenance, or death. There is no evidence of closure due to accidents, urban development, or military conversion.
The airport is permanently closed and the site has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. Current satellite imagery shows the land where the runway once existed is now a hayfield or pasture, seamlessly integrated with the surrounding farmland. While a very faint outline of the former runway can be discerned from the air, there are no remaining aviation facilities. The associated buildings appear to be a private residence and farm outbuildings.
Harris Airport was a private general aviation airfield. Its significance was limited to serving the personal and recreational flying needs of its owner and possibly invited guests. When active, it featured a single 2,600-foot unpaved turf runway. Operations would have consisted of light, single-engine aircraft typical of general aviation (e.g., Cessna or Piper models). It held no commercial or military significance and was not open for public use.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Harris Airport. The land has been repurposed for agriculture for over two decades, and the airport has been officially de-listed from all aviation charts and databases. Re-establishing an airfield on the site would be prohibitively expensive and is highly unlikely.
