Vac Heliport

Relocation and Modernization. The heliport was a ground-level pad that was replaced by a new, modern, and better-sited heliport located approximately 250 meters to the southeast, adjacent to the hospital's emergency services. This move was likely to improve safety, meet updated regulatory standards, and provide more direct access for patient transport.

The original heliport site is now a landscaped grassy area featuring the circular concrete pad where helicopters once landed. It is part of the Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center grounds and is no longer used for any aviation activities. All helicopter operations for the hospital now utilize the new, active heliport nearby.

The name 'Vac Heliport' strongly suggests its association with the Veterans Affairs Center ('VAC'). Located on the grounds of the Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center, its primary and likely sole purpose was to handle medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) and other critical patient transport helicopter flights. It played a vital role in providing rapid access to specialized medical care for veterans in the Central Texas region.
