The airport was closed sometime between 1982 and 1993. It was still listed as an active private field in the 1982 AOPA Airport Directory but was no longer depicted on the 1993 World Aeronautical Chart.
The specific reason for the closure is not officially documented, which is common for small, private airfields. The closure was likely due to the owner no longer wishing or being able to maintain the facility, the sale of the land for other purposes, or economic non-viability. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a specific accident or for military conversion.
The site of the former airport is now a private residential property. The grassy area that once served as the runway is still partially visible in satellite imagery but is overgrown and bisected by fences and other obstructions. A large man-made pond has been constructed over the southern end of the former runway alignment. The property contains a private residence and several large outbuildings, some of which may be repurposed or are remnants of the original hangars. The site is completely unusable for any aviation activity.
LaGrange Airport, also known as Ortner Airport (at one time designated with the FAA identifier 3OH0), was a private general aviation airfield. It was established sometime between 1954 and 1960. Its primary function was to serve the needs of its owner and potentially a few other local pilots for recreational flying. Aeronautical charts and directories from the era show it had a single unpaved turf runway (Runway 18/36) with a length of approximately 2,200 feet. Its significance was purely local, contributing to the general aviation community in Lorain County, Ohio.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening LaGrange Airport. The land has been fundamentally altered and repurposed for residential use, including the construction of a large pond directly on the former runway path. Re-establishing an airport at this location would be infeasible.
