Circa 2017-2018. Aeronautical charts from 2017 still depicted the airport, but by 2018, aerial imagery shows residential construction had begun on the runway itself.
Urban encroachment and real estate development. The rapidly growing Austin suburb of Leander expanded, and the land occupied by the airstrip was sold and redeveloped into a master-planned residential community, making the airport's continued operation impossible.
The site has been completely redeveloped and is now the 'Highlands at Crystal Falls' residential subdivision. The former runway's north-south alignment is now occupied by homes and streets, most notably 'Pegasus Drive,' which runs along the former centerline of the airstrip, paying homage to its aviation past. Other streets in the development, such as Lyra Drive and Orion Drive, also have celestial/aviation themes.
Pegasus Place Airstrip (formerly FAA identifier: 85TX) was a private residential airpark. It was designed to serve a fly-in community where residents, who were typically pilots, could park their personal aircraft at their homes in hangars and taxi directly to the runway. The airport featured a single paved north/south runway (17/35) approximately 3,000 feet long. It exclusively handled general aviation traffic, consisting of single-engine and light twin-engine aircraft used for personal and recreational purposes by the community's residents.
None. The land has been permanently repurposed with high-density residential housing, roads, and infrastructure, making it impossible for the site to ever be used as an airport again.
There are still visibility markers up on the power lines along Crystal Falls Parkway aligned with the south approach of this former grass strip in 2024!
