Approximately 2001-2002. The airport was last depicted on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart. A 2002 aerial photograph shows the runway marked with closed 'X' symbols and the surrounding land being prepared for major construction, indicating it had ceased operations by then.
The primary reason for the closure was economic, driven by rapid urban encroachment. The airport was located in what became the heart of the massive Cinco Ranch master-planned community, a fast-growing and affluent suburb of Houston. The value of the land for residential and commercial real estate development far exceeded its value as a general aviation airport, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The airport site has been completely and irrevocably redeveloped. It is now a major part of the Cinco Ranch residential subdivision. The former runway and airport grounds are now occupied by dense single-family homes, commercial properties, man-made lakes, and major thoroughfares, including the intersection of Cinco Ranch Boulevard and Spring Green Boulevard. There are no physical remnants of the airport left.
Originally known as Harold Freeman Farm Airport and later renamed Lakeside Airport, this was a privately owned, public-use airfield. It featured a single asphalt runway (16/34) approximately 3,500 feet long. The airport was a local hub for general aviation, serving private pilots, flight training activities, and small personal aircraft in the Katy area. Its original name, 'Farm Airport', suggests it may have initially supported agricultural operations before the area became suburbanized. It served as a convenient local airfield for a growing community before being overtaken by suburban development.
None. The land has been fully converted to high-density residential and commercial use. The infrastructure, housing, and roadways built on the former airport grounds make it impossible for the site to ever be used as an airport again.
