Approximately 1994. While the exact date is not publicly recorded, the heliport was owned and operated by the Texaco Chemical Company. Texaco sold the Port Neches chemical plant to Huntsman Corporation in 1994. The heliport, under its Texaco-specific name and ownership, would have ceased to exist with this transfer of ownership. It was likely decommissioned by the new owners shortly thereafter.
Corporate Restructuring and Change of Ownership. The primary reason for the closure was Texaco's divestment of its chemical business. When the Port Neches facility was sold to Huntsman Corporation, the new owner had different operational procedures and transportation needs, leading to the decommissioning of the private heliport.
The site is now an open, grassy area within the secure perimeter of the TPC Group Port Neches Operations chemical plant. The coordinates place it inside the industrial facility, but there are no remaining visible structures, markings, or infrastructure indicating an active or former heliport. The entire plant has faced significant operational challenges, including a major explosion in 2019 and a subsequent bankruptcy filing by TPC Group in 2022.
The heliport was a private logistical asset for the sprawling Texaco Chemical Company plant. Its main purpose was to facilitate rapid transportation for corporate executives, engineers, and important visitors to and from the site, bypassing ground traffic. It may also have been utilized for aerial surveys of the large industrial complex and associated pipelines, or served as a designated landing zone for emergency medical evacuation helicopters.
None. There are no known plans or prospects to reopen the heliport. The original owner has not operated the site for decades, and the current operator is focused on recovery and restructuring after catastrophic industrial and financial events. The re-establishment of a private heliport is not a stated priority and is considered extremely unlikely.
