The closure was most likely due to a change in the ranch's ownership, the owner deciding to cease flight operations, or the owner's passing. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a major accident, military conversion, or specific economic reasons.

The airport is permanently closed. The site remains part of the private ranch property. Current satellite imagery clearly shows the physical outline of the former runway. A large, faded 'X' marking, the universal symbol for a closed runway, is still visible on the southern end of the strip. The land has effectively reverted to ranch land, with the runway existing as a visible scar on the landscape.

Slaughter Ranch Airport, which used the FAA identifier 1TE2 when active, was a private airfield serving the large Slaughter Ranch. Its primary function was to support general aviation activities for the ranch owners and their guests. Operations would have included personal transportation and ranch management, such as property surveys, using small single or twin-engine aircraft. The airfield featured a single north/south turf runway approximately 3,000 feet in length and was operational from at least 1970 until its closure.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Slaughter Ranch Airport. Given its status as a private airfield that has been closed for two decades and the proximity of the publicly-owned Burnet Municipal Airport (KBMQ) which serves the Marble Falls area, any chance of reopening is considered extremely unlikely.
