Circa 2004-2005. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the airport was still intact in 2004, but by 2005, construction had begun on the residential development that now occupies the site.
Economic reasons and urban encroachment. The land, located in the growing Toledo suburb of Waterville, became more valuable for residential development than for use as a private airfield. The property was sold to developers to build a housing subdivision.
The site has been completely redeveloped and is now a residential subdivision known as 'The Preserve'. The main road of the development, Preserve Place, runs directly along the path of the former runway's centerline. There are no remaining traces of the runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.
Rocky Ridge Airpark was a small, privately owned general aviation airfield. Its significance was primarily local, serving as a base for recreational flying for its owner and other local pilots. It featured a single north-south turf runway, estimated to be about 2,600 feet long, and a few small hangars on the southwest side of the property. It was not a commercial or military airport and did not handle scheduled flights. It represented a typical small, private-use airstrip common in the US during the late 20th century.
None. The land has been permanently and completely converted to residential use with dozens of homes built on the former airport grounds. Reacquiring the land and demolishing the neighborhood to rebuild an airport is not a feasible or planned prospect.
