Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Circa 2010-2012. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was visible and appeared potentially active until around 2010. By 2012, the field was no longer maintained as an airstrip, and by 2013, the land was being cleared for major construction.

Reason for Closure

Economic reasons, specifically land development. The airport was situated on a valuable parcel of land in a growing suburban area. The property was sold to a developer (Toll Brothers) and redeveloped into a luxury residential community, a far more profitable use for the land than a private airstrip.

Current Status

The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by a high-density, luxury active-adult residential community known as 'Delancey Court at Newtown'. The former runway, hangar, and surrounding open space have been replaced by single-family homes, streets (such as Amersham Way and Stony Pond Drive), and manicured landscaping. There are no remaining traces of the airport.

Historical Significance

Stott Private Airport was a small, privately owned airfield with a single grass runway, likely oriented NNE/SSW. Its primary function was to serve the personal and recreational flying needs of its owner, the Stott family, and possibly their associates. It handled small, single-engine general aviation aircraft. Like many similar private fields across the United States, its significance was local and personal rather than of major national or military importance. It represented a period when private aviation was more accessible and land in the region was less developed.

Reopening Prospects

None. The prospect of reopening the airport is zero. The land has been permanently repurposed for dense residential use, making it physically and economically impossible to re-establish an airfield at this location.
