Approximately between 1994 and 1998. The airport was still visible and clear in 1994 aerial photography but was no longer depicted on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart. By 2004, the land was being actively farmed.
The specific reason is not officially documented. However, the circumstances are typical for a small, privately-owned airfield. The closure was most likely due to a private decision by the owner to cease operations and sell or repurpose the land for more profitable use, in this case, agriculture. There is no evidence of a major accident, military conversion, or specific economic collapse forcing the closure.
The site of the former airport has been fully reclaimed and is now used as active agricultural farmland. Current satellite imagery shows cultivated fields where the north/south runway and any associated structures once stood. There are no visible remnants of the airport.
Southcreek Airport, which also used the FAA identifier 8OA1, was a small, private general aviation airfield. It was operational from at least 1970. The facility consisted of a single unpaved turf runway, listed in 1982 as being 2,600 feet long. Its operations were limited to serving local private pilots and light, single-engine aircraft (like Cessnas and Pipers). It held no major commercial or military significance but was a component of the local general aviation infrastructure in Sandusky County for over two decades.
There are no known plans, discussions, or prospects for reopening Southcreek Airport. The land is privately owned and fully integrated into the surrounding agricultural landscape, making any return to aviation use virtually impossible and highly unlikely.
