The airport closed sometime between 1981 and 1994. It was last depicted on the 1981 Cincinnati Sectional Aeronautical Chart but was no longer present on the 1994 edition.
The specific reason is not officially documented, which is common for small private airfields. The closure was most likely due to the private owner ceasing operations for personal or economic reasons, such as retirement or selling the property. The land was subsequently converted back to full-time agricultural use. There is no evidence suggesting it was closed due to a major accident, military conversion, or environmental issues.
The site of the former airport has been completely reverted to private agricultural land. Satellite imagery of the coordinates clearly shows cultivated fields. The faint, linear outline of the former north-south runway is still discernible in the crops and soil under certain conditions, but no airport infrastructure, such as hangars, buildings, or markings, remains. The property is actively farmed.
Hydebrook Airport, initially known as Hyde Field, was a small, private general aviation airfield. It featured a single unpaved turf runway, oriented approximately north/south, with a length reported between 2,600 and 2,800 feet. Its operations were limited to serving its private owner and possibly other local pilots with permission. It was a characteristic example of a private 'farm strip' and held no significant commercial, military, or strategic importance. Its historical significance is primarily local, as a footnote in the general aviation history of Greene County, Ohio.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Hydebrook Airport. The land is privately owned and has been dedicated to agriculture for decades. Re-establishing an airport on this site would be extremely unlikely due to land use, zoning, and the significant costs involved.
