The airport ceased active operations and maintenance sometime between 2002 and 2006. While a 2002 aerial photo showed a clearly maintained runway, by 2006 it was visibly overgrown. The FAA officially listed the airport as 'closed indefinitely' in its 2010 Airport/Facility Directory.
The specific reason is not officially documented, which is common for small, private airfields. The closure was most likely due to the owner ceasing operations, possibly due to retirement, death, or the economic unfeasibility of continued maintenance. The gradual overgrowth of the runway, rather than immediate redevelopment, suggests a passive closure from lack of use and upkeep.
The site of the former Shaw Field is now private residential and agricultural property. The turf runway is completely overgrown and no longer distinguishable from the surrounding fields, although its linear outline can still be faintly discerned in historical satellite imagery. The original residence and a building that likely served as a hangar are still standing on the property located on Shaw Road.
Shaw Field (formerly FAA identifier: 1NY0) was a small, private general aviation airport. It was owned and operated by William Shaw. First appearing in aviation directories around 1970, it served as a personal airstrip for the owner and likely a few other local pilots. The facility consisted of a single turf runway (designated 1/19) measuring approximately 2,200 feet. Its operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft for recreational flying. The airport represents a typical example of the numerous private-use airstrips that were common in rural America during the latter half of the 20th century.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Shaw Field. The land has been fully reverted to private, non-aviation use for nearly two decades. Re-establishing an airport on the site would be prohibitively difficult and is considered highly improbable.
