The airport was a small, private turf field that was rendered obsolete and closed following the construction and opening of the new, larger, and publicly-owned Pamlico County Airport (W95) a few miles to the northeast.
The site is now privately owned land. The former runway area is an overgrown field, and its faint outline is still visible in satellite imagery. There are no remaining airport buildings or structures on the property. The land appears to be fallow or used for minor agricultural purposes.
This was a small, private general aviation airfield that was operational from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. It was known locally as the Bayboro Airport or the original Pamlico Airport. It featured a single unpaved turf runway, approximately 2,200 feet long. The airport's operations were limited to serving local private pilots with light, single-engine aircraft for recreational and possibly agricultural purposes. It held no major military or commercial significance and was superseded by a more modern facility to better serve the county's aviation needs.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening this airfield. The existence of the superior, active, and publicly-funded Pamlico County Airport (W95) nearby makes the revival of this small, private strip economically unfeasible and redundant.
