Approximately between 1970 and 1976. The airport was depicted on the 1970 Wichita Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 1976 chart, indicating it was closed within that timeframe.
Operational replacement and modernization. Wilcox Field, with its relatively short turf runways, was replaced by the current Anthony Municipal Airport (ICAO: KANY), which was constructed southwest of the city. The new airport provided a longer, paved runway and more modern facilities better suited to the needs of general aviation, rendering the old field obsolete.
The airport is permanently closed and the site has been fully converted to agricultural use. The land is now a cultivated farm field. No buildings, hangars, or other airport infrastructure remain. However, the faint, ghostly outlines of the former crossing runways are still clearly visible in satellite and aerial imagery.
Wilcox Field was the original municipal airport for the city of Anthony, Kansas, established circa 1934-1935. It served as the primary hub for local general aviation for nearly four decades. Initially known as Anthony Municipal Airport, it was later renamed Wilcox Field. In its prime during the 1960s, it operated with two turf runways in an 'X' configuration (Runway 17/35 at 2,640 ft and Runway 13/31 at 2,100 ft). Operations were managed by the City of Anthony and consisted mainly of private light aircraft and agricultural aviation (crop dusters).
None. The land has been privately owned and used for farming for decades. The community's aviation needs are fully met by the active Anthony Municipal Airport (KANY), making the reopening of this historic site infeasible and unnecessary. There are no known plans or discussions regarding its revival as an airfield.
