Approximately between 1976 and 1998. The airport was last depicted on the 1976 Cheyenne Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 1998 version. Aerial imagery from 1993 shows it in a state of disuse.
The specific reason is not officially documented, as is common for private airfields. However, the most probable cause is the cessation of flying activities by the private owner. This could be due to the sale of the ranch, the owner no longer being an active pilot, or the high cost of maintenance for a non-essential facility. It was not closed due to military conversion, a major accident, or urban development.
The airport is permanently closed and has been completely reclaimed for agricultural use. Satellite imagery shows the land is now occupied by farm fields, including at least one center-pivot irrigation circle that overlaps the former runway area. While a faint, ghostly outline of the north/south runway is still visible from the air, no airport infrastructure remains. The site is private property and part of an active farm.
Yocam Ranch Airport was a private airstrip with local, not national, significance. It was established sometime between 1954 and 1967 to serve the needs of the Yocam Ranch, a large agricultural operation. When active, it was charted as a private field with a single 3,600-foot unpaved runway. Operations would have consisted of light general aviation aircraft used for personal transportation, business travel, and agricultural purposes like surveying the vast ranch property. Its existence was typical of many large, remote ranches in the American West during the mid-20th century.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Yocam Ranch Airport. The land has been fully integrated into agricultural operations. Re-establishing an airport at this location would be prohibitively expensive and impractical, as it would require purchasing the land from the current owner and completely rebuilding the runway and any supporting facilities. There is no public or commercial demand that would justify such an effort.
