The exact closure date is not officially documented. Based on analysis of historical satellite imagery, the airstrip appears to have fallen into disuse and become overgrown sometime between the late 2000s and early 2010s. Imagery from the mid-2000s shows relatively distinct runways, while imagery from 2013 onwards shows them significantly faded and blending into the surrounding pasture.
No official reason for the closure is recorded, which is typical for a small, private airstrip. The closure was almost certainly due to a cessation of private use. Common reasons for this include the property owner no longer being an active pilot, selling the ranch to a new owner who had no use for an airstrip, the high cost of aircraft maintenance, or the aircraft based there being sold. It was not closed for military conversion, commercial economic failure, or a publicly documented accident.
The site is no longer an active airport. The land has reverted to its primary use as agricultural pastureland, fully integrated with the surrounding ranch. The faint outlines of the two former runways are still visible in satellite imagery as linear disturbances in the vegetation, but they are not maintained, marked, or usable by aircraft. There are no remaining airport facilities such as hangars, fuel pumps, or terminal buildings.
Williams Ranch Airport held no major historical significance in the national or regional aviation system. Its importance was entirely private and local. It was a classic example of a rural, private-use airfield, common in large agricultural areas of the United States. Operations would have been limited to general aviation and agricultural flights. It consisted of two unpaved, dirt or turf runways in a crosswind configuration to allow for takeoffs and landings in various wind conditions. Its primary purpose was likely to support the operations of the Williams Ranch, which could have included personal transportation for the owner, agricultural spraying (crop dusting), and aerial surveillance of livestock and property.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Williams Ranch Airport. As a privately owned airstrip on private land, any decision to reopen would be solely at the discretion and expense of the current landowner. Given its remote location, the lack of public demand, and the cost required to clear, grade, and re-establish the runways, a reopening is considered extremely unlikely.
