Approximately between 2000 and 2005. The airport was listed in the 2000 AOPA Airport Directory but was absent from the 2005 edition, indicating it was officially closed within that timeframe.
The airport was a private field owned by an individual, Alson Woods. The closure was not due to a specific incident, military conversion, or major economic event. It is presumed that the closure was a private decision by the owner, possibly due to the sale of the property, retirement from flying, or the land being repurposed for other uses.
The site is no longer used for aviation. As of the early 2020s, satellite imagery shows the faint outline of the former runway is still visible but is unmaintained and overgrown in places. The property has been redeveloped and is now occupied by private residential and commercial buildings, including structures associated with a construction business. The land is effectively a private residential and commercial lot.
Woods STOLport (formerly bearing the FAA Location ID: 1CO1) was a private general aviation airport that catered specifically to Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. Its primary significance was as a personal airfield for its owner and any permitted associates. When active, it featured a single unpaved dirt/gravel runway, approximately 2,600 feet in length, oriented roughly NNE/SSW. It served as a base for private recreational or business aviation, well-suited for accessing the mountainous terrain of western Colorado. The airport appeared on aeronautical charts from at least 1980 through 1998.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Woods STOLport. The construction of new, permanent buildings directly on and adjacent to the former airfield footprint makes its return to aviation use highly improbable. The airport is considered permanently closed.
