Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately between mid-2022 and late-2022. Analysis of historical satellite imagery indicates the helipad markings were present in April 2022 but had been removed by October 2022, coinciding with the winding down of operations at the site.

Reason for Closure

Economic and logistical. The heliport was a private facility exclusively serving the corporate headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Sanofi. Sanofi consolidated its operations, vacated the campus, and sold the property in 2023. The closure of the heliport was a direct consequence of the campus no longer serving as a major corporate hub, rendering the facility obsolete.

Current Status

The site of the former heliport is now an indistinct section of a large asphalt parking lot. All specific markings, such as the 'H', have been paved over or removed. The entire property has been sold and is being redeveloped and marketed as the 'Bridgewater Innovation Campus' for multi-tenant use.

Historical Significance

RBH Heliport was a private corporate heliport located on a large, sprawling campus in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The campus was originally built for American Cyanamid and was later the headquarters for Hoechst Celanese, Aventis, and finally Sanofi. The heliport's primary and sole function was for corporate and executive transport, providing a quick way for executives to travel to and from regional airports (like EWR, TEB, JFK) and other business locations, bypassing ground traffic. It was a symbol of the large, self-contained suburban corporate campuses that were prominent in the latter half of the 20th century.

Reopening Prospects

None. There are no known or published plans to reopen or re-establish a heliport at this location. The new property owners are focused on leasing the existing office and lab space, and a private heliport is not part of their redevelopment strategy.
