Between 1965 and 1968. The airfield was depicted on the 1965 Detroit Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 1968 edition.
The specific reason for the closure is not officially documented. However, it was a small private field owned by Raymond C. Ford, who also developed and operated the larger and more capable Toledo Suburban Airport (now Toledo Metcalf Field, KTDZ) nearby. It is highly probable that this smaller, original field was closed as operations were consolidated at the new airport.
The site has been completely converted back to agricultural land. Current satellite imagery of the location shows open farmland with no visible traces of the former runway, hangars, or any other aviation-related structures. The land is located at the intersection of Sylvania-Metamora Road and Kilburn Road.
R C Ford Field was a private general aviation airfield operational during the 1960s. According to the 1962 AOPA Airport Directory, it was operated by its namesake, Raymond C. Ford, a key figure in the development of aviation in the Toledo area. The airfield consisted of a single 2,600-foot sod runway and primarily served personal aircraft. Its existence represents an early aviation venture by Ford before he established the more prominent Toledo Suburban Airport.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening R C Ford Field. The land has been actively farmed for over five decades, and its complete redevelopment for agriculture makes any return to aviation use infeasible.
