Approximately late 2018 to early 2019. The heliport was officially listed as 'Closed Permanently' by the FAA following the shutdown of the corporate headquarters it served.
Economic reasons, directly linked to corporate restructuring. The heliport was a private facility exclusively serving the adjacent corporate campus, which was the long-time headquarters of PHH Corporation, a major mortgage and fleet services company. In 2018, PHH was acquired by Ocwen Financial, and the Mount Laurel/Moorestown headquarters was subsequently closed down. With the primary user gone, the heliport had no further purpose and was decommissioned.
The heliport is permanently closed and non-operational. The physical infrastructure, a circular paved helipad, remains visible on the grounds of the corporate campus, which has been rebranded as the 'Laurel Corporate Center' and is now a multi-tenant office park. The helipad is unused and is essentially an artifact within the property's landscaping, northeast of the main building.
The Griffin Associates Heliport (formerly FAA LID: 20NJ) was a private corporate heliport. Its significance was tied to the major corporations it served at the 1000 Howard Blvd campus. For many years, this was PHH Corporation. The heliport provided a crucial transportation link for corporate executives, allowing for rapid travel to and from major hubs like New York City and regional airports, bypassing ground traffic. Its operation was a symbol of the status and logistical needs of the major financial services company headquartered there. 'Griffin Associates' was likely the name of the property holding or development company that owned the campus and registered the heliport with the FAA.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. Its existence was justified by the needs of a single, large-scale corporate tenant. As the site is now a multi-tenant office park, there is no single entity with the requirement or financial incentive to undertake the significant cost and regulatory process of recertifying and operating a private heliport. Reopening is considered highly improbable.
