Circa 1979-1982. Aerial photography from 1979 shows the runway marked with closed-runway 'X' symbols. The airport's last known listing in the AOPA Airports USA Directory was in 1982, and it was no longer depicted on aviation charts by 1990.
Urban encroachment and subsequent real estate development. The airport was located in what became a prime area of the rapidly growing and affluent Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Colleyville. The land's value for commercial development far surpassed its value as a small, private airfield, leading to its sale and closure.
The site has been completely redeveloped and shows no remaining trace of the former airport. The land is now occupied by the 'Town Center Colleyville', a major shopping center located along Colleyville Boulevard (State Highway 26). The development includes a Market Street grocery store, various retail stores, restaurants, and extensive parking lots, which cover the area of the former runway and airport facilities.
Craig Airport was a privately-owned, public-use general aviation airfield established between 1953 and 1955. Initially featuring a short unpaved runway, it was paved and extended to approximately 2,600 feet by 1963. The airport, operated by George Craig, served the local community of private pilots and was a typical example of the small airfields that dotted the landscape around major cities before widespread suburban development. It primarily handled light single-engine aircraft and supported recreational flying and pilot training in the mid-20th century.
None. The site has been fully redeveloped into a high-value commercial center. A return to aviation use is impossible due to the existing dense infrastructure and the surrounding urban environment.
