Circa mid-to-late 1990s. The airport was depicted on the 1992 Memphis Sectional Chart but was no longer listed on the 1999 chart, indicating closure occurred within that timeframe.
The airport was closed following the acquisition of the land by Pulaski County and the City of Little Rock for public recreational development. The primary reason was to repurpose the land into a large public park, a project driven by urban planning and the desire to create more green space and recreational facilities for the community.
The site of the former airport has been completely transformed into Two Rivers Park, a 1,000-acre public park managed by the City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation. It is a major recreational destination, featuring extensive paved trails for walking, running, and cycling that connect to the larger Arkansas River Trail system. The park includes open fields, beautiful landscapes at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Maumelle Rivers, and areas for wildlife viewing. The former runway's footprint is no longer distinguishable and has been fully integrated into the park's network of trails and open green space.
Two Rivers Airport, also known by its former FAA identifier 22AR and sometimes as Garden Valley Airport, was a small, privately-owned airfield dedicated to general aviation. It featured a single unpaved, turf runway (approximately 3,300 feet long) and served local pilots and aircraft owners. It was never a commercial or military facility. Its significance lies in its role as a local aviation hub for private pilots for several decades before the expansion of the Little Rock metropolitan area led to its redevelopment.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and successfully repurposed into a highly popular and well-established public park. Its current use as a vital recreational asset for the City of Little Rock makes any consideration of reverting it to an airfield infeasible.
