Circa 2001-2002. The airport was noted as 'Closed indefinitely' in the 2000 AOPA Airport Directory, and 2002 aerial imagery shows the runway marked with closed 'X' symbols, indicating operations had permanently ceased by then.
Economic reasons driven by urban development. As the city of Saline expanded, the land the airport occupied became increasingly valuable for real estate. The owners ultimately sold the property to a developer for the construction of a residential subdivision, a more profitable use for the land.
The airport site has been completely redeveloped. It is now the location of a residential housing subdivision known as the 'Saline River Preserve'. All traces of the former airport, including the runway, taxiways, and hangars, have been removed and replaced with homes, streets, and manicured lawns.
Saline Airport (which had the FAA identifier 0M4) was a privately-owned, public-use general aviation airport that served the local community for approximately 36 years, from around 1965 to 2001. It was a vital hub for local pilots, featuring a single paved runway (18/36) that was approximately 2,740 feet long. The airport provided essential services including flight instruction, aircraft rental, fuel (100LL Avgas), and maintenance. It supported a vibrant community of aviation enthusiasts and was a key piece of local infrastructure before its closure.
None. The land has been permanently and fully converted to high-density residential use, making any prospect of reopening as an airport impossible.
