Circa 2014-2015. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the rooftop helipad was visible until at least early 2014. By January 2015, the building on which the heliport was located had been demolished or was undergoing major redevelopment, and the helipad was gone.
The closure was a direct result of the redevelopment of the commercial property on which it was located. The original building, which featured the rooftop helipad, was torn down and replaced with a new retail center. The decision was based on economic and real estate development factors, not on any aviation-related incident, accident, or military conversion.
The site has been completely redeveloped. The original building and helipad no longer exist. The property now hosts a modern retail center, with the primary tenant being the Dennis Jewelry Company. The land is used entirely for commercial retail purposes.
Tips Jewels Heliport was a private rooftop heliport located atop the 'Tips' family's large retail establishment on US Highway 281 N. The business was well-known in the San Antonio area, selling items like western wear, boots, and jewelry. The heliport was used exclusively for the private transport of the business owners and executives, reflecting a unique aspect of the family's business operations. It was not a public-use facility and handled only light, private helicopter traffic. The identifier 'US-10507' is a non-standard, internal database code and not an official ICAO designation.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The infrastructure was permanently removed during the site's redevelopment. Re-establishing a heliport would require new construction, significant investment, and regulatory approval, which is highly improbable given the current commercial use of the property.
