The airport was closed between 1994 and 1998. It was still listed as an active private airfield on the 1994 Sacramento Sectional Chart, but a 1998 aerial photograph shows the runway marked with closed-runway 'X' symbols. It was officially depicted as a closed airfield on the 2004 chart.
While no official reason is documented, the closure is typical for small, privately-owned airfields. It was most likely due to economic factors, such as the 'Sunrise Dusters' agricultural aviation business ceasing operations, or the owner selling the land for its value as agricultural real estate.
The airport is permanently closed and has been completely dismantled. Current satellite imagery of the location shows that the land has been fully converted back to agricultural use. The former runway, taxiways, and buildings have been removed, and the site is now an actively cultivated field, appearing to be an orchard or vineyard.
Sunrise Dusters Airport, which formerly used the FAA identifier 0O2, was a private airfield dedicated to agricultural aviation. As its name implies, it served as the operational base for the 'Sunrise Dusters' crop-dusting company. Established prior to 1965, it supported the vast farming industry of California's Sacramento Valley. The facility consisted of a single paved 2,000-foot runway (16/34) and basic support structures for its fleet of agricultural aircraft.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The complete removal of all aviation infrastructure and the conversion of the land to high-value agriculture make any future return to aviation use extremely unlikely.
