Circa 2007-2008. While an exact date is not documented, analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the airport's single hangar was present in October 2006 but had been removed by January 2008. The airport was last depicted on the 2003 Fort Worth Sectional Chart, and its closure occurred sometime between then and the hangar's removal.
Sale of land for real estate development. Barge Ranch Airport was a private airfield located in an area of significant suburban growth. The closure and subsequent removal of airport infrastructure were followed by the sale and redevelopment of the land for a high-end residential housing subdivision. This is a common reason for the closure of small, privately-owned airfields near expanding urban centers.
The site has been completely and irreversibly redeveloped. The former airport grounds are now occupied by the Bella Charca residential subdivision. The northern half of the former runway is covered by homes and streets, including Sneed Loop. The southern portion, where the hangar once stood, is now the location of a large private residence and landscaped grounds. No visible trace of the runway, hangar, or any other airport feature remains.
Barge Ranch Airport was a small, privately owned and operated general aviation airfield. Its owner was listed as George Barge. The facility consisted of a single unpaved turf runway, oriented approximately north/south (17/35), with a length of 3,000 feet. A small hangar was located at the southern end of the runway. The airport's operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft for the personal and recreational use of the owner and their associates. It held no significant commercial or military role and served exclusively as a private airstrip.
None. The land has been fully redeveloped with permanent residential housing and infrastructure. There is no possibility of the site being converted back into an airport.
