The airport was closed sometime between 1993 and 2003. It was last depicted as an active airfield on the 1993 Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Sectional Chart. By the time the 2003 chart was published, it was officially marked as 'abandoned'.
The specific reason for the closure is not publicly documented. This is common for small, privately-owned airfields. Closures of this type are typically due to factors such as the owner's death, the sale of the property, prohibitive costs of maintenance and insurance, or a general decline in use.
The site of the former airport is now private property. Satellite imagery of the coordinates (33.032101, -94.379402) shows the faint, ghostly outline of the former north-south runway. The area is completely overgrown with grass and is indistinguishable from the surrounding fields and pastureland. There are no remaining aviation facilities such as hangars or markings, and the land appears to be part of a private rural estate or ranch.
Boon/Lovelace Airport (which also had the FAA identifier 3F6) was a small, private general aviation airfield. It first appeared on aeronautical charts in the early 1980s. The facility consisted of a single turf/grass runway, designated 17/35, with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. Its operations were limited to serving the personal and recreational needs of its owners and local pilots with small, single-engine aircraft. It did not handle commercial, cargo, or military operations and held no significant role in the national aviation system.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Boon/Lovelace Airport. The land is privately owned, and the airfield has been officially and physically abandoned for over 20 years. It is highly improbable that it will ever be restored to aviation use.
