Approximately between 1993 and 1998. The airport was last depicted on the 1993 Dallas-Fort Worth Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart.
Economic reasons driven by urban encroachment. As the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex expanded into Lewisville, the land value for real estate development far surpassed its value as a private airfield. The pressure from surrounding residential and commercial growth made continued operation unfeasible.
The airport site has been completely redeveloped and is now a dense residential housing subdivision called 'The Estates at Hilliard'. The original runway, hangars, and all other airport infrastructure have been removed. The legacy of the airport is preserved through street names in the neighborhood, such as 'Hilliard Drive' and 'Watson Drive', which directly reference the former airport and its owner.
Hilliard Landing Area Airport, also known as Hilliard Airport (Identifier: T32), was a private general aviation airfield owned and operated by Watson Hilliard. It was established sometime in the mid-1960s and first appeared on the 1968 DFW Sectional Chart. The airport featured a single unpaved turf runway, approximately 2,500 feet in length. For nearly three decades, it served as a base for local private pilots and their aircraft, contributing to the general aviation community north of Dallas before the area became heavily developed.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening. The land has been permanently repurposed for high-density residential use, making any future aviation activity at this location impossible.
