Circa late 1970s to early 1980s. The airport was last depicted on a 1978 aeronautical chart, and by the mid-1990s, the area was being redeveloped.
Urban encroachment and real estate development. As the Houston metropolitan area expanded, the land became more valuable for residential housing than for a small, private airfield, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The airport site has been completely redeveloped into a residential neighborhood. The former north-south runway's path is now occupied by a street named 'Tower Road,' and the surrounding land is the 'Tower Oaks' housing subdivision. No physical traces of the airport infrastructure remain.
Kami-Kazi Airport, later known as Tower Airport, was a small, privately-owned general aviation field. Its primary significance was local, serving pilots in the Santa Fe and Galveston County area. The most notable aspect of its history is its original name; 'Kami-Kazi' was reportedly chosen as a tongue-in-cheek joke by its owner, a WWII veteran, because of the challenging approach over nearby power lines. When active, it featured a single turf runway (Runway 17/35) approximately 2,500 feet long and handled light, single-engine aircraft.
None. The land has been fully and permanently converted to high-density residential use, making any prospect of reopening as an airport impossible.
