Approximately between 2011 and 2013. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the helipad markings were present in 2011 but had been paved over and removed by 2013.
The heliport was a private facility owned by Corning Incorporated. The closure was a corporate decision, likely resulting from a combination of factors including the high cost of operation, a decreased need for direct-to-campus helicopter transport, and the consolidation of corporate aviation services at the nearby Elmira/Corning Regional Airport (KELM). The land was subsequently repurposed as part of the expansion of the Sullivan Park research campus.
The site of the former heliport is now an unmarked paved area, fully integrated into the parking lots and internal road system of the Corning Incorporated Sullivan Park campus. All aviation-related markings and dedicated infrastructure have been removed. The land is used for vehicle parking and general campus transit.
Erwin Heliport was a private corporate heliport located directly on the grounds of Corning Incorporated's primary research and development facility, Sullivan Park. Its sole function was to provide secure and efficient point-to-point transportation for company executives, visiting dignitaries, and key personnel. The heliport allowed for rapid transit between corporate headquarters, other company sites, and regional airports, underscoring the strategic importance of the Sullivan Park campus and serving as a symbol of corporate prestige and logistical efficiency during its operational years.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The corporate need it once served is now fulfilled by ground transportation from the nearby regional airport. As the land has been fully repurposed, a reopening is considered extremely unlikely.
