The exact date is not documented, but evidence from aeronautical charts and satellite imagery suggests the airport closed sometime between the mid-1990s and early 2000s. It was still depicted on a 1993 World Aeronautical Chart but was no longer shown on the 2004 Sectional Chart. Aerial photos from 1996 show a well-maintained runway, while photos from 2006 show it becoming overgrown.
The specific reason for closure is not officially recorded. As a small, privately owned airfield, the closure was most likely due to economic factors, the sale of the property, or the owner's decision to cease aviation activities. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a major accident, environmental issues, or military conversion.
The site is private property. The former runway is no longer maintained for aviation and is heavily overgrown with grass and small trees, making it unusable. The faint outline of the north-south runway is still clearly visible in satellite imagery. The land appears to be part of a larger rural or residential parcel.
Pine Prairie Airport was a private general aviation airfield with local, rather than national, significance. When active, it featured a single north-south turf runway, listed as 3,000 feet long on a 1977 sectional chart. It served private pilots and their light, single-engine aircraft for recreational or personal transportation. It was never a commercial or military facility and did not handle scheduled passenger or cargo operations.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Pine Prairie Airport. Given that it was a small private strip on private land, its deteriorated condition, and the proximity of the public Ashdown Municipal Airport (KASG) just a few miles to the west, the likelihood of it ever being restored as an active airfield is virtually zero.
