Circa mid-1980s. The airport was depicted on aeronautical charts in the early 1980s (e.g., 1982) but had disappeared from charts by the late 1980s. Aerial photography from 1995 shows the land being actively redeveloped, confirming its closure well before that time.
Urban encroachment and economic pressure. The primary reason for the airport's closure was the rapid suburban expansion of West Houston and the Katy area. The land became extremely valuable for real estate development, particularly for the construction of the large master-planned community of Cinco Ranch, which eventually overtook the airport's location.
The site has been completely and densely redeveloped. The former location of Hoffpauir Airport is now occupied by the Cinco Ranch Southwest section of the Cinco Ranch master-planned community. The land is covered with residential streets, single-family homes, commercial properties, and schools, including Seven Lakes High School and Beckendorff Junior High School, which are located on or immediately adjacent to the former airfield. No physical trace of the airport remains.
Hoffpauir Airport was a small, privately owned general aviation airfield. It featured a single unpaved turf runway, listed on a 1978 chart as being 2,600 feet long. The airport was owned and operated by the Hoffpauir family for their personal aircraft and likely served other local private pilots. Its significance lies in it being a typical example of the numerous private airstrips that once dotted the rural-urban fringe of major American cities before being erased by decades of suburban growth.
None. There are zero prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been fully utilized for high-value residential and commercial real estate, making any attempt to re-establish an aviation facility physically, legally, and economically impossible.
