Approximately late 1996. The heliport ceased operations concurrently with the closure of the Trinity Meadows Race Track after its final racing season ended.
Economic reasons. The heliport's existence was solely dependent on the Trinity Meadows Race Track. The racetrack suffered from persistent financial difficulties and ultimately closed due to its inability to compete with the much larger, state-of-the-art Lone Star Park, a 'Class 1' track that was set to open in nearby Grand Prairie in 1997. Trinity Meadows was a 'Class 2' track and its failure to secure a more prominent license sealed its fate.
The site has been completely demolished and redeveloped. The land formerly occupied by the racetrack and its heliport is now a large, mixed-use development known as 'The Shops at Willow Park' and 'Willow Park North'. This area features retail stores, restaurants, professional offices, and residential communities. There are no physical remnants of the original racetrack or the heliport.
The heliport served the Trinity Meadows Race Track, which operated from 1991 to 1996. The track was historically significant as the first pari-mutuel horse racing venue to open in the Dallas-Fort Worth area after Texas voters approved such gambling in 1987. The heliport's primary function was to support the racetrack's operations, likely facilitating the transport of VIP guests, horse owners, prominent jockeys, and officials. It may have also been used for media broadcasting or as a landing zone for emergency medical services.
None. The prospect of reopening the heliport is zero. The original site has been permanently and completely repurposed for commercial and residential use, making a return to aviation or horse racing operations impossible.
