Approximately late August 1990. The corporation that operated the airport, 'Pleasant View Ultralight, Inc.', was officially recorded as 'Voluntarily Dissolved' by the Missouri Secretary of State on August 29, 1990, indicating the airport ceased operations around this time.
The closure was due to the dissolution of the operating company. This strongly suggests the reasons were internal to the business, such as economic non-viability, the owner no longer wishing to run the facility, or other personal/business-related decisions. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a major accident, government action, or military conversion.
The airport is permanently closed and no longer exists. Analysis of historical and current satellite imagery shows that the land has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. The former grass runway is no longer visible or maintained and is now part of a larger private farm field. There are no remaining aviation-related structures like hangars or sheds on the site.
Pleasant View Ultralight was a small, privately-owned airfield that catered specifically to the recreational ultralight aviation community. It was active for a relatively short period, from its incorporation in July 1987 to its closure in 1990. The facility consisted of a single grass runway, oriented north-south (18/36) with approximate dimensions of 1500 x 100 feet. Its significance was purely local, providing a dedicated space for ultralight pilots in the Ste. Genevieve County area to fly from. It did not support commercial, charter, or significant general aviation traffic.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Given that the operating company was dissolved over 30 years ago and the land has been integrated into private farmland, the likelihood of it ever being re-established as an airfield is extremely low to non-existent.
