Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Late 2013 - Early 2014

Reason for Closure

Economic reasons. The heliport was closed following the Chapter 7 bankruptcy and subsequent liquidation of its parent company, Evergreen International Aviation, Inc. The company officially ceased all operations on December 31, 2013, leading to the closure of its facilities, including the Sabine Pass heliport.

Current Status

The heliport no longer exists. The site has been completely demolished and redeveloped. Analysis of the coordinates (29.6933, -93.966797) using satellite imagery shows that the land formerly occupied by the heliport is now an integral part of the massive Cheniere Sabine Pass LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminal. The area is now covered by industrial infrastructure, including processing units, pipe racks, and other components of the LNG liquefaction and export facility.

Historical Significance

The Evergreen Helicopters Heliport was a vital logistical base for the offshore oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico. Its primary function was to transport personnel, equipment, and supplies to and from offshore drilling rigs and production platforms. As part of Evergreen Helicopters, a major global aviation services company, this heliport supported critical energy infrastructure for many years, operating a fleet of helicopters designed for the demanding over-water environment of the Gulf.

Reopening Prospects

There are no prospects for reopening this heliport. The original operator, Evergreen Helicopters, is defunct. Furthermore, the land has been permanently repurposed and is now a critical part of the Sabine Pass LNG terminal, one of the largest LNG export facilities in the world. The complete redevelopment of the site for a different industrial use precludes any possibility of its return to aviation service.
