Winn Ranch Airport

Economic reasons, specifically land redevelopment. The land occupied by the Winn Ranch and its private airstrip was sold and redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision, a common fate for private airfields located in areas with growing populations.

The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing community called 'Winn Ranch'. Houses, streets (such as Winn Valley Drive), and private yards have been built directly over the former runway. While the airport is gone, the faint outline of the grass runway can still be discerned in some open spaces between properties when viewed from satellite imagery.

Winn Ranch Airport was a private, unpaved turf airstrip serving the personal and business needs of the Winn Ranch. The runway was approximately 3,000 feet long and oriented in a northeast/southwest direction. It was primarily used for general aviation by the ranch's owner, John Winn, a notable rancher and developer in the Wimberley area. The airport was not a public facility, handled no commercial or military traffic, and its significance was tied directly to the private operations of the ranch it served. The ICAO code 'US-10274' is a non-official identifier used by some third-party databases and was not assigned by the FAA.

There are no prospects for reopening. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted for residential use, with infrastructure and private homes built directly on the former airfield.
