Approximately between 1998 and 2002. The airport was listed in the 1998 Airport/Facility Directory but was no longer depicted on the 2002 Washington Sectional Chart. Aerial photos from 2005 show the residential development under construction on the site.
Real estate redevelopment. The airport was closed to be converted into a residential housing community. The land was more valuable for housing than for its use as a private airfield.
The site has been fully redeveloped into a waterfront residential community called 'Bay Creek at Pamlico Sound'. The former runway's path has been partially paved and is now the main road of the development, named 'Runway Drive'. The surrounding area is occupied by single-family homes, with other streets also having aviation-themed names like 'Propeller Drive', 'Tailwind Drive', and 'Wind Sock Way'.
Bay Creek Airport (formerly FAA identifier: 4W7) was a private general aviation airport established between 1981 and 1987. It featured a single 3,000-foot turf runway (5/23). The airport was designed as the central feature of a 'fly-in' residential airpark, intended to allow residents to park their personal aircraft at their homes. Its operations were limited to private, light general aviation aircraft, and it held no significant military or commercial role.
None. The prospect of reopening is nonexistent. The airport's runway and surrounding land have been permanently converted into roads, housing lots, and residential homes, making any future aviation use impossible at this location.
