Circa 2009-2011. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the airstrip was progressively reclaimed for agriculture during this period. By 1991, it was a well-defined turf runway. By 2009, the runway was being plowed over, and by 2011, it was fully converted to cropland.
Economic reasons and change in land use. Skalicky Airstrip was a private turf runway located on what appears to be Skalicky Farms. The property owner converted the land back to full agricultural use, plowing over the runway to expand the cultivated area. This is a common fate for private farm strips when the owner ceases flying operations or the land becomes more valuable for farming.
The site of the former airstrip has been completely returned to nature and agriculture. Current satellite imagery shows the area is an active agricultural field, fully integrated with the surrounding farmland. There are no visible remnants of the runway, hangars, or any other aviation-related infrastructure.
Skalicky Airstrip was a private, unregistered general aviation airstrip. Its ICAO code, US-10214, is a non-standard identifier used by third-party databases and not an official FAA code. Its significance was purely local, serving the private recreational or business flying needs of its owner. Topographical maps confirm its existence by 1983. The airstrip featured a single north-south turf runway, approximately 2,200 feet in length, suitable for light, single-engine aircraft such as Cessna 172s or Piper Cherokees.
None. There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airstrip. The land is privately owned and is currently productive farmland. Re-establishing an airport would require significant investment, taking valuable land out of agricultural production, and is considered extremely unlikely.
